Dr. Sunny Gupta joined UCF as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2026. He earned his B.S. and M.S. in Physics, with a minor in Materials, from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Nanoengineering from Rice University. He conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and later served as a Research Scientist at Rice University. Some honors include the Nettie S. Autrey Fellowship at Rice University and the KVPY Fellowship at the Indian Institute of Science.

Outside research, he enjoys baking, cricket, tennis, and his long-standing pursuit of mastering the harmonica.

The Gupta Research Group is growing. We welcome motivated PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and undergraduate researchers interested in computational materials science, quantum materials, and materials design.
